My Bio Alice M. Yutzy, born on October 7th, 1948 in Baltimore MD spent her formative years living in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. From a very young age Alice enjoyed drawing as a favorite pastime. Graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Art Education Alice teaches in the public school system. She also teaches small ceramic workshops. Teaching Ceramics and Sculpture at LaPlata High School in Charles County Maryland, she feels fortunate to have the opportunity to teach the subjects she loves the most. Alice lives with her husband and companion Harold DeLauder on 6½ wooded acres in Charles County Maryland. Their grown children Brianna and Woody have also chosen careers in education. An avid nature lover, Alice enjoys her many animal companions and the peace and solitude of rural Southern Maryland. Although her primary media is clay, she has also worked in plaster, stone, mixed media, cast cement, and lightweight concrete. At this time Alice is pursuing her MFA degree in Ceramics at Towson University. Her focus is mid to large scale ceramic pieces with the intention of creating sacred and contemplative spaces. Alice values the critical review process of her professors at Towson as she looks forward to her thesis exhibit and to working as a full time artist after her graduation. Alice continues to evolve, allowing her artwork to be an expression of her inner self. |
